Happy Mother's Day?

So Peter, what will you be doing during Mother Day's weekend? Normaal zou ik zeggen 'hoe bedoel je', maar in de US pas ik een beetje op mijn woorden. Een heel weekend zeg - ook hier is het dan de bedoeling dat je niet je eigen moeder wat aandacht geeft, maar de moeder van je kind(eren), voor zover aanwezig. Fijn commercieel festijn natuurlijk - in de VS niet op zondag maar op maandag gepland, 13 mei, zodat je op de dag zelf een dag te laat van alles en nog wat kan laten bezorgen. Mijn spamfilter zat gelukkig vol met aanbiedingen. Bosje bloemen bij Amazon? Prima, en voor $187.95 nog thuisbezorgd ook. Kopers van dit item kochten ook belgische bonbons, the queen op dvd of babel met brad pitt. Zit wel goed dus (?!). Als geoefend webwinkelaar nog maar even de reviews doorgenomen. Die vertellen meer over de Amerikaanse economie dan over de bloemen zelf, opmerkelijk genoeg. Een bloemlezing:

IS THIS PRICE $187.95 CORRECT? I WAS INTERESTED WHEN I RECEIVED THE AD, BUT THIS PRICE IS RIDICULOUS...

This is an exquisite bouquet for Mother's Day but in these times who can afford it? Shouldn't everyone who loves their mom be able to send them such beauty on their special day? I vote they should. One must keep in mind what times most people are living and dealing with. The price needs to be more realistic and in line with the severe economic crisis in the USA.

That price is way too expensive. There are so many similar arrangements out there. If my husband spent that much money on flowers only, I would be upset. At that price, he can buy me flowers, dinner and a movie. Wishing all the Mom's out there a Happy Mother's Day.
